Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 June 2026

1. Who we are

dash is a newsroom monitoring tool operated by Starquo (the "Company"), a South African company. We can be reached at dash@starquo.com. This Privacy Policy explains how dash handles information, both for the journalists who use the product and for the public whose content passes through it.

2. What dash does

dash helps journalists spot breaking stories as they emerge. It reads publicly available content from third-party platforms (listed below) and surfaces it to a journalist in one workspace. The app is read-only. It never posts, votes, comments, messages, or modifies content on any platform.

3. Information collected about journalists who use dash

When a journalist signs in to dash, we collect:

We use this only to run the product, debug issues, and support the journalist's newsroom. We do not sell this information.

4. Public content read from third-party platforms

For each platform listed below, dash reads only public content using each platform's official APIs and within their published rate limits. We never read private messages, friends-only posts, or content restricted to followers.

For each piece of public content surfaced to a journalist, dash stores:

dash does not republish or extract full post content. A journalist who wants to read the full post clicks through to the source platform. Traffic flows to the source platform, not away from it.

5. Third-party platforms dash reads from

We update this list when new sources are added.

6. How we use the information

7. Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share data only with the newsroom that licenses dash, with service providers under contract (such as our cloud hosting provider, Cloudflare), and where required by law.

8. Retention

Public-content snippets and identifiers are retained for up to 90 days, after which they are purged. Journalist account data is retained for as long as the newsroom maintains an active subscription.

9. Security

We use industry-standard practices including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, role-based access control, and the principle of least privilege. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users and authorities of any material breach as required by law.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under POPIA (South Africa), GDPR (European Economic Area), CCPA (California), and similar laws. These can include the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict our use of your personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, or to request deletion of public content cached by dash, write to dash@starquo.com. See our Data Deletion page for the specific process.

11. Children

dash is a professional newsroom tool and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. International users

dash is operated from South Africa. If you access the product from outside South Africa, your information may be transferred to and processed in South Africa under standard contractual safeguards.

13. Changes

We will update this Policy as the product evolves. We will post the new effective date at the top of the page. Material changes will be communicated to active users via email.

14. Contact

Questions about this Policy, or about data dash has cached about you, can be sent to dash@starquo.com.
